第七屆台北國際牛肉麵節下周四開幕，北市府將其直接音譯為「New Row Mian Festival」，昨遭議員批「老外會笑掉大牙。」有民眾也揶揄「何不用台語音譯」。學者則指此譯法無推廣效果。

市議員秦儷舫昨質詢市長郝龍斌，指牛肉麵節海報譯為「New Row Mian Festival」，讓外國人笑掉大牙。郝也說，曾看過招牌寫「Boo Tai」，後才搞懂是「補胎」，英譯要重視國際化。

商業處長劉佳鈞稍後受訪時說，2005 年開辦牛肉麵節時，英譯為「Taipei Beef Noodles Festival」，但當時的市長馬英九建議研究音譯，後經美食專家討論定案；督導此活動的副市長陳雄文昨說不會改變譯法。

主張音譯的美食專家吳恩文說，日本壽司英語也音譯為 Suchi (Sushi) ，可方便老外記住。

來台旅遊的老外 Steve 對「New Row Mian Festival」霧煞煞，問：「What’s that?」(是什麼?)；另有民眾揶揄「何不用台語音譯?」

政大英語系教授陳超明說，音譯若不似「Suchi」簡潔，無推廣效果，他會譯成「Beef Noodles Festival」。(蘋果日報 2011/11/11)
